Next week, April 14 – 18, school will be suspended for spring break – at least within the Seattle School District and at Fremont’s public school, B.F. Day Elementary. As a result, expect to see more neighborhood children out-and-about.
During her reminder message to students and parents, B.F. Day Principal Katie Pearl also shared a report from the Washington State Department of Health that confirmed a case of measles in this area, and that the carrier visited Seattle on March 28th & 29th. A highly contagious disease that presents with rash, fever, cough and eye irritation, measles can be fatal but the risk of catching it is low for people who have been properly immunized. Students are required to have two MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccinations to attend public school. Those who have not been vaccinated, or are not sure about their risk, may want to contact their health care provider.
Principal Pearl also asked that those who visit B.F. Day in the next few months welcome a new face in the front office. Tamara Siler will be helping with phone answering and front desk matters while long-time staffer Jan Grubbs is on health leave (unrelated to the measles notice above.)
It is to be hoped that everyone at B.F. Day has a restful, healthy spring vacation – and returns ready to learn. As Principal Pearl recommended, get outside and read a book over this coming week!
