This Friday, December 7th, the Fremont First Art Walk will bring its culture and artists to our community – as the centerpiece of the Fremont Festivus celebrations.
This is also, annually, the largest of the Fremont Art Walks, with more venues and crafts than usual. Be sure to check the participating spaces for art and great gift ideas for your friends, family, hostess gifts and even, maybe, a White Elephant or two.
An up-to-date map, listing all participating venues, will be available on-line on December 7th (click here,) but be sure to check out:
- Portage Bay Goods, the procrastinator’s gift shop, will be showing works by Chi Michalski in December. This illustrator, artist and occasional art director has new holiday prints and cards on-display and for purchase, as ChiChiLand. Come see the new art show, and enjoy wine, snacks and sweet treats – and the first 50 visitors at 6p will receive a free holiday goodie bag.
- At Dumpling Tzar this month see art by Madi Octavia. This tattoo apprentice creates art from liquid acrylic and pen on arches paper, and prismacolor on wood. Check out prints and original paintings by this emerging artist.
- Down Under Gallery will be showing the wonderfully whimsical paintings of L. Kelly Lyles and the beautiful blown-glass of Rodman Gilder Miller through January. Stop by on Friday to enjoy the works of these two local legends, in the art world and our community.
- Saturn Building (3417 Evanston Ave N,) and the SPACE Building (600 N 36th,) will be open – showing art in the halls as well as in some spaces. Check out art by Roz Martinez, Wesley Freese, Cariña Booyens, Rae Vena, Tom Castantini, Bradley Wilkinson, and Adriana Klansnic.
- Frame Up Studios has two artists this month, with the block prints and etchings of Liz Neuman and acrylics works of nature and biology by Megan Wyreweden. See two artists with distinctive styles that beautifully co-exist, revealing a narrative in every composition.
- Outsider Comics & Geek Boutique will be gearing up for a busy weekend of author signings and vendor events, as part of The Alterna-Steam SteamCrawl. However, on Friday from 6p – 8p, enjoy a pop-up with Cindy Krafft of 8-Bit Quilts, and the feminist and geeky textile art she creates.
- In connection with its current show, ‘Veils’, West of Lenin is showing paintings by Hiba Jameel in its gallery. This self-taught painter processes the world around her by translating her experiences onto the canvas using distinct brush strokes, a rich color palate, and exaggerated figures. Stop by the theater to see works by this multidisciplinary artist, and get Happy Hour drink pricing during Art Walk.
