On Friday, May 14th from 5p – 8p, the Down Under Gallery will welcome visitors (and friends) to the garden surrounding it. Come meet the featured artist for May and step inside the Gallery to see his ‘Far-Flung Folklore’ collection. Eric Chan will be on-hand to discuss his paintings and his inspirations for these depictions of fantasy, mythology, and pop culture tales.
Located down-the-stairs at 465 N 36th (below The Uncommon Cottage) the Down Under Gallery celebrates all artists, but especially the emerging artists from our community. In Chan’s ink-line, oil paintings find well-drawn figures, compelling facial expressions and bold colors. He has chosen to paint on reclaimed (scrap) wood, incorporating the unique imperfections of the surfaces into the compositions. His works encourage viewers to contemplate the time, space, and realities between the subjects and themselves.
In addition to Eric Chan, the Down Under has a few other artists on-display including hand-blown glass by Rodman Gilder Miller, FiberArt and PhotoArt by Vibrant Poppy’s Sarah Weathers, etched glass and stone by Bad Bad Ricky, prints by Bjoern T.M. Larsen, and international photographs by the gallery curator Adrian Laney.
This gathering will strictly follow all State regulations for COVID-19 precaution, including social distancing and masks. Please approach the garden with consideration for the safety of all, and be aware that if the stairs are an impediment ADA-access is available from the alley behind the Gallery. Entry to the Gallery space will be monitored, timed and counted. Any last minute adjustments will be posted on the Facebook Event page (click here.)
The Down Under Gallery is excited to introduce the works of Eric Chan to everyone who has yet to see his ‘Far-Flung Folklore’ collection. For those who have been by the Gallery, stop off and meet the artist! For more information, visit the Down Under Gallery webpage (click here.)
