On Friday, May 1st, from 6p – 9p, the Fremont First Friday Art Walk welcomes everyone to the ‘hood for a stroll among the art, the artists and the venues. The Fremont Art Walk has a great collection of artists, and venues that offer art and so much more.
In addition to providing a place to experience art, the May 1st Art Walk also provides a perfect opportunity for shopping for a truly unique or ideally impressive Mother’s Day gift, for May 10th.
One great Art Walk venue for finding a Mother’s Day gift, or card, is always Portage Bay Goods. In addition to the best, funniest and sweetest cards, locally crafted jewelry, thoughtful journals and re-useable bags, at the Art Walk PBG will have the whimsical art of Brandon Kallmes. The artist, along with his high-personality illustrations and animations, will be on display at the shop this Friday.
Another great option for creative gifts, and original art, is Frame-Up Studios. This iconic Fremont shop has plenty of art year ‘round, but in May they will also have a collection of new paintings and prints by Roy Powell. Powell creates art to convey ideas about memory, loss, awkwardness and heroism.
And finally, while there will be no gifts for sale, Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar does have delicious food for sale (use the phrase ‘Make art, not war’ and get $1 off your order.) They will also have local artist Jasmine Isaacson, who works in a wide range of media, showing works that examine interactions between color and form, and available for purchase at reasonable prices.
Check out the official Fremont First Friday list for more venues, including Fremont Jewelry Design and Art F/X, that will be participating in the May Day Art Walk. Come for the art and stay for the ambiance of Fremont’s fabulous First Friday!
