The King County Councilmembers are elected by district, and Fremont falls entirely in District #4. Last week, Abigail Doerr (Democrat) announced her candidacy for that seat on the council.
According to her official statement –
“I’m running because King County plays such an important role in transportation, human services, and environmental protection and must be a stronger partner as our region faces unprecedented change. We need new leadership and a fresh voice helping craft decisions that will affect our families, neighborhoods, and communities for generations to come.”
Doerr refers to herself as a renter and transit rider. She advocates for progressive policy solutions, and wants to bring perspective to the Council as a resident and employee in Seattle. “I am passionate about taking my experience as a leader in transportation and the environmental community to the next level on the County Council,” she wrote.
Doerr also wrote,
“The County Council can and must step up and help lead on real problems facing our city and county. I will listen to and work with others and will prioritize the issues that matter most: affordable housing and child care, mental health and homelessness, available and reliable transit, and a clean environment.”
Doerr would be running for the King County Council seat currently occupied by Jeanne Kohl-Welles. The incumbent has not announced her intention to run again, or not, but she has already responded to Doerr’s announcement with the quote to The Seattle Times, “I am a renter, I am a transit user, I ride the bus every day to work and back,” Kohl-Welles is quoted, “I don’t know why she thinks that would be a new perspective that she would hold that I don’t.”
This November, Fremont voters will have to decide who they want to represent them on the King County Council. Doerr hopes to see all voters out talking with her on the campaign trail.
