AlertSeattle Sends Out Reminder About Fireworks & Keeping Safe

The City of Seattle encourages everyone to celebrate the 4th of July safely, and without the use of fireworks!  Fireworks are illegal in Seattle, for a reason.

Last year there were 237 fireworks-related injuries, according to AlertSeattle, and 360 fires in Washington.  The use of fireworks can be exciting and entertaining, but they can have unintended consequences – including the loss of life, limb and property.  Damages can be devastating.

The recent extremely hot and dry weather has significantly increased the risk of fire, with grass, trees and brush even drier than usual.  Conditions are ideal for fire, and unnoticed sparks from fireworks can lead to destruction, and even death.

The 4th of July weekend is, historically, incredibly busy for firefighters and police officers.  Due to this, AlertSeattle asks that the use of 9-1-1 be reserved for life-threatening emergencies.

To report the illegal discharge of fireworks, AlertSeattle recommends contacting the Community Safety & Coordination Center non-emergency line at 206/625-5011.
