The votes are in, and tallied, and the winners of the Fremocentrist.com Best of Fremont for 2012 have been identified!

For Best Resident, the winner is Charles Hadrann – a resident since 1976.  Hadrann is also owner of an iconic Fremont business, Wright Bros. Cycle Works, a member of Doric Lodge #92, and a frequent customer at area shops and restaurants.  While voters gave no specific reasons for his election, in 2012 Fremocentrist.com reported on Hadrann’s response to a request for help repairing a bike.  He took the request seriously, and sent supplies and advice to repair several bikes on a U.S. military base in Kuwait.

Steve Butcher, CEO of Brown Paper Tickets, accepts the award for 'Best Fremont Business for 2012' from Fremocentrist.com's Kirby Lindsay, in January '13

For Best Business, the winner is Brown Paper Tickets, a world-wide business with headquarters in Fremont, on both the south and north sides of the Lake Washington Ship Canal.  In 2012, Brown Paper Tickets took part in the Fremont First Friday Art Walk, Trick-or-Treat In Fremont, and other activities – while providing ticketing services to at least 75% of all of Fremont’s festivals and events.  Of the BPT employees that voted, they cited the company as a great place to work!

For Best Project/Organization, the winner is – well, all of us!  The project selected by voters as the Best of 2012 is B.F. Day Playground Improvement, being organized by the B.F. Day Elementary School P.T.S.A.  Considering the fact that the new playground is being designed, funded and built by all Fremonsters, young and old, for our use, it is easy to see how we all win on this one!

In the category of Organization/Project, it was a very tight race with Doric Lodge #92 as a very close second – and potentially the organization to beat in the voting for 2013.   Each winner received a revolving trophy – thanks to Scott’s Trophy and Archie McPhee (fashioned upon the ‘Art-Car-School’ of trophies) – and a certificate they can keep and frame for eternity.

Voting for the Best of Fremont 2013 will open on November 15th – as the year progresses, think about who you think is most deserving of this great honor.

Thank you to everyone who voted for the first-ever Best of Fremont awards.  If you do hear of a resident, business, organization/project deserving of exposure and attention, send the word to instigator@box2219.temp.domains
