The annual Historic Streetcar Walking Tour of Fremont will take place Thursday, July 25, starting from the corner of North 34th Street & Phinney Avenue North (in front of the Theo Chocolate factory) at 7p.
This free tour, hosted by the Fremont Historical Society, will detail the role played by streetcars in the history and development of Fremont, as well as informing attendees about the streetcar routes that carried travelers through the neighborhood in the early 1900s. The tour starts at the ‘streetcar barn’ where, at one time, streetcars from all over Seattle came for repairs and maintenance.
Led by Heather McAuliffe and Erik Pihl, two members of the Fremont Historical Society, who research this subject year ’round, the tour will contain a wealth of facts. For those who may have attended before, expect to hear further details unearthed about the streetcars of Seattle.
This is a walking tour, and attendees can expect to cover an area of Fremont that includes some inclines. Yet, is there a better way to spend a summer’s evening than strolling the neighborhood and imagining it as it must have been 100 years ago…
