Applications are due February 3rd for the 2014 Neighborhood Park & Street Fund, a program of the City of Seattle for getting park and street improvements in Fremont. In 2013, several area projects were submitted for funding (read about them in the Fremocentrist.com column.)
Each year the Seattle city budget has a portion set aside – approximately $1.2 million in 2014 – for neighborhood street and park improvements. The money is divided among the 13 neighborhood districts – Fremont is in the Lake Union District – and designated for projects proposed by the community at large. You could propose a project to our Lake Union District Council, and see improvements you’ve long wished to see get done.
Examples of park projects include: playground improvements, trail upgrades, park benches or tables, natural area renovations, and accessibility improvements. Examples of street projects include: marked crosswalks, curb ramps, pedestrian countdown signals, traffic circles, median islands, speed feedback signs and sidewalk repair. The Seattle Department of Transportation has created a list of approximate project costs per project type.
Proposed projects, for Fremont, will be considered by the Lake Union District Council (LUDC) along with any others submitted from the other neighborhoods in this district. The LUDC can select three projects to forward to the City for feasibility and cost analysis.
