Mark your calendar for Park(ing) Day on Friday, September 15th, when community members can create street parks and/or temporary art installations out of on-street parking spaces. Applications for these transformations can be submitted through the Seattle Department of Transportation by Friday, August 18th.
Community groups, and committed individuals, can create public spaces on Park(ing) Day, focusing on a specific theme, group activity, or just called by inspiration. Few limitations exist as to what can conceivably be done with this public space. Funds for these temporary installations can be sought through applications for the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ Small Sparks Grant.
Applications received early have a better chance of being accepted, so apply now. For more information about Park(ing) Day and what the City of Seattle has done in the past, visit the Seattle Transportation Park(ing) Day website.
