Join in a week-long marathon at the Fremont Arts Council Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Ave N) making salmon windsocks for the International Salmon Delegation for the Climate in Paris in December.  Help achieve the goal of 350 Salmon by giving an hour or a day to this art party!

Workshop times are:

  • Monday, Nov 16, 11 am-3 pm
  • Wednesday, Nov 18, 11 am-3 pm
  • Friday, Nov 20, 11 am-10 pm
  • Sunday, Nov 22, 11 am -5 pm
  • Monday, Nov 23, 11 am-3 pm & 7 pm-10 pm

Volunteers can bring food to share, and no skills are needed.  Tasks that need doing include ironing, sewing, trimming, and inserting rings and light bars.  Bring a sewing machine if you have one.

The salmon will be used to amplify the voice of the Lummi Youth Canoe Family traveling to Paris, and the voices of other indigenous people, to inform the world about our waters, our air, our lands, and the impacts of global warming.  Imagine a ‘school’ of silk-batik salmon ‘swimming’ through the streets of Paris during the UN Climate summit, carried by people from all over the world to the haunting sounds of Native American flute music.

Even if you can’t help build salmon, consider donating to the International Salmon Delegation for the Climate through Indigogo, or the Indigenous Youth Canoe To Paris on GoFundMe.  Find out more about the International Salmon Delegation for the Climate by dropping-in at the Powerhouse during one of the public workshops, or visit the Facebook page.
