As Moisture Festival runs into its second to last week, the Down Under Gallery is displaying some of the hundreds of photos of the performers at the vaudeville showcase, taken by Michelle Bates.  Her show, ‘15 Years of Moisture Festival’, captures the magic and mischief of Moisture, in a permanent and collectible form.

On Saturday, March 30th, from 4p – 7p, Michelle Bates will be at the Down Under Gallery to talk about her experiences capturing the wonderful whimsy of Moisture, and many of Fremont’s most iconic arts events.  Bates has been photographing the Fremont Arts Council Solstice Parade since its earliest days, as well as being a witness, through her lens, of Miracle on 34th Street, the Trolls shopping the original Fremont PCC, and Oregon Country Fair.  Bates is also known internationally for her work with the Holga and turning this low-tech, toy camera into an art medium.  Copies of her book, ‘Plastic Cameras’, will also be on-sale at the Down Under during this Artist’s Reception, and the run of her show.

‘15 Year of Moisture Festival’ will be on-display in the Down Under Gallery through April 30th, along with a selection of fine hand-blown art glass created by Rodman Gilder Miller in his Fremont studio.  The gallery is at 465 N 36th Street, down the stairs (with ADA access through the alley,) and is open by appointment at 206-632-3170.  The gallery is also the offices for Fremocentrist.com.

Please consider attending the Artist’s Reception for Michelle Bates on March 30th between 4p – 7p, either after a Moisture Festival matinee or before the evening shows at Hale’s Palladium or the Libertease Cabaret at Broadway Performance Hall this week.  The gallery will also be open 4p – 9p on Friday, April 5th for the Fremont First Friday Art Walk.

This is a great chance to see images that capture unique art in movement; moments that came once and will never come exactly that way again!
