A reception for local glass artist Rodman Gilder Miller has been announced for Sunday, December 9th from 3p – 6p at the Down Under Gallery (465 N 36th, #C.)
Miller has been a huge influencer on our community, and the art scene here. He’s served as a volunteer with the Fremont Arts Council and the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, and has contributed to several of the celebrations around the neighborhood – leading a bell ringing for the re-opening of the Fremont Branch Library, contributing new art to mark the 100th Anniversary of Fire Station #9, providing housing assistance to the Moisture Festival volunteers, etc. In fact, since coming to Fremont in 1988, Miller has been an active participant in most of the shenanigans that have happened here.
Yet, he has also been hard at work, creating amazing art in his studio here. Miller has created an incredible wealth of glass and neon pieces over the years, including several pieces on display publicly in Fremont (the Blue Plate Special, Peet’s Railing, Sputnik, neon on the Fremont Rocket, and the neon Rapunzel & The Elephant’s Child.) His glass art is in the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, and he has sold designs to Glass Eye Studio. A great-grandson of Louis Comfort Tiffany, Miller has brought the same organic style to his flowing blown-glass creations in a rainbow of lush colors.
See a small sampling of Miller’s work on-display now at Down Under Gallery, and meet the artist during his Artist’s Reception on Sunday at 3p. The gathering will also be the unofficial Closing Party for Fremont Festivus, a weekend celebration of the small businesses, arts venues and all things Fremont! Stop by the Down Under, open 2p – 7p, to see Miller’s glass as well as paintings now on display by another legendary Seattle artist, L. Kelly Lyles.
See you there?
