Two Fremont religious communities will be hosting special services to celebrate Ash Wednesday on February 26th.
- Church Of The Apostles will observe the beginning of the season of Lent with a special liturgy starting at 7p, at the Fremont Abbey. The name ‘Ash Wednesday’ comes from the imposition of ashes, and COTA makes their ashes from palms from last year’s Palm Sunday service. The ashes are mixed with anointing oil, and applied to the forehead, as a symbol of mortality.
- Emmanuel Bible Church will hold a simple Ash Wednesday service, also at 7p, in their worship space on N 50th (across from The Zoo.) One of the formative seasons of the Christian calendar, Lent is a season to explore the experience and implicit questions of the human condition.
Fremont has several celebrations of Mardi Gras – the days of festivities in advance of Lenin – including the Fremont Arts Council Petit Troll Parade on Sunday, February 23rd, and the 4th Annual Polyrhythmics Party at Nectar Lounge on Fat Tuesday, February 25th. This year, why not add joining an Ash Wednesday service to round out your Mardi Gras?
For those looking for a great way to serve, before Ash Wednesday service, or needing a meal, consider the Community Meal at Fremont Baptist Church, as organized by Two Bridges Church. At 5p, volunteers serve a prepared meal to all those who need a warm, free meal – and members of our community who want to sit down and share. Learn more on the Two Bridges website, or by attending the Community Meal at 5p on any Wednesday, including February 26th.
