Bastyr University (including the Bastyr Center for Natural Health) will partner with Hopelink July 16 – 20th to collect food for needy families – with your help.
The ‘John Bastyr Helping Hands Food Drive’ will assist in Hopelink’s ‘End Summer Hunger’ campaign to address the traditionally slow time for food bank donations. Between vacations and other summer distractions, donations slow at the same time the demand is greater due to the loss of school lunch programs that serve the children in need.
“Our namesake, Dr. John Bastyr, set an incredible example of compassion, generosity and service to the local community,” said Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD. “This food drive is a wonderful way to honor of his legacy of caring while providing much needed relief for many King County children and their families.”
Throughout the week of July 16-20, donation stations will be established at both the Bastyr University campus and the Stone Way clinic for those who can donate healthy non-perishable items such as:
- Prepared meals (canned soups, stews, chili, etc.)
- Canned meats and nuts
- Whole grain or gluten-free cereal, pasta, rice or flour
- Dried beans and peas
- Natural peanut butter
- Organic fruit (canned or fresh)
- Organic vegetables (canned or fresh)
- Organic shelf-stable milk or baby formula
- Olive or healthy cooking oils
- Shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, laundry detergent, diapers, baby wipes, etc.
All donations will go directly to Hopelink’s “End Summer Hunger” campaign. Monetary donations can also be made online at: www.hope-link.org.
