The World Is Fun, a non-profit dedicated to engaging volunteers in fun, philanthropic activities, recently received the 2013 Wendy Walters Truitt Champions for Foster Kids Volunteer Excellence Award from Treehouse. The award honored the work of The World Is Fun, and the 100% volunteer organization’s founder Amy Faulkner, at the 12th Annual Treehouse fundraising luncheon.
The Wendy Walters Truitt Award honors outstanding volunteers who show ingenuity and excellence. “We are so thrilled to honor Amy Faulkner,” stated Janis Avery, Treehouse CEO. “Amy truly exemplifies the spirit of the award as a volunteer that has gone above and beyond all reasonable expectations.”
The World Is Fun started as a blog by Faulkner, featuring fun things to do in Seattle, and transformed into a one-of-a-kind organization melding community involvement and fun, social activities that allow participants to give back.
One of the most outrageous, and established, of the activities promoted by The World Is Fun is the annual Beard & ‘Stache Fest. This fundraiser engages over 100 furry-face Seattleites (and Fremonsters) as a focus for fundraising at area bars and restaurants. Customers vote with their change for their follicle-favorite, with all the funds going to benefit foster kids in King County. Now in its fifth year, the Fest can raise over $16,000.
“The success of her Beard & Stache event, administrated by The World Is Fun’s team, is a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together as a community for our kids,” added Avery. To donate to Treehouse, and help area foster children, visit www.treehouseforkids.org.
