This weekend, catch the first performances of a new play by (very) local playwright Sonya Schneider, at West of Lenin. ‘Big Rock’ opens this Friday, March 16th, with performances through March 31st, so purchase tickets soon – before it sells out!
Onward Ho! Productions has brought ‘Big Rock’ to Fremont for its premiere performances, directed by Laurel Pilar Garcia, supported by the creative team of scenic designer Julia Welch, sound designer Rob Witmer, lighting designer Jessica Trundy, costume designer Sarah Mosher, and props designer Tori Stephens. This production features a talented ensemble cast – Todd Jefferson Moore, Meg McLynn, and Evan Whitfield – in this drama about art, motivations, and relationships.
Sonya Schneider’s ‘Big Rock’ follows Signe Sands, an up-and-comer in modern art, as she flees the demands of her career in New York City to find refuge at her father’s retreat on a remote Pacific Northwest island. The strained relationship between father and daughter is pulled tighter by the realization that as her star rises, his may be falling. Entering into this relationship is an islander with dreams of his own, and newly awakened artistic abilities, who can inspire and reveal new points of view. As Signe’s time on the big rock comes to a close, the artist must make choices that could change the course of her life.
Purchase tickets to ‘Big Rock’ through Brown Paper Tickets, soon! Onward Ho! last brought Schneider’s ‘Royal Blood’ to Fremont, and this show may be even more popular! Tickets to the intimate theater may sell out fast.
