Book Larder has two upcoming, free author talks that explore cuisine from two very exotic cultures, providing us with a chance to sample, savor and, in one case, literally step into these incredible traditions.
On Thursday, November 9th, at 6:30p, Book Larder welcomes journalist Robyn Eckhardt to Upper Fremont to share her stories about twenty years spent discovering the best dishes of Istanbul, Turkey. Standing at the crossroads of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Asia, this ancient country boasts astonishingly rich and diverse culinary traditions. Eckhardt, and her photographer husband David Hagerman, take readers of ‘Istanbul & Beyond’ on an epicurean adventure, starting in Istanbul and then journeying to lesser-known provinces, influenced by the neighboring Syria, Iran, Iraq, Armenia and Georgia. As Eckhardt talks about her journeys throughout Turkey, the Book Larder kitchen will serve up samples from one of the recipes in ‘Istanbul & Beyond’, with copies of the book – signed by the author – for sale as holiday gifts for food and/or travel lovers!
On Sunday, November 12th, from 4:30p – 6p, Book Larder welcomes author Sri Rao to the bookshop, to talk about Indian cuisine and Bollywood cinema. The culture that created these two bold, colorful and dramatic traditions can seem dizzying to the uninitiated. As an American working in Bollywood, Sri Rao has combined his expertise in Indian musical films with his avid affection for Indian cuisine for his book, ‘Bollywood Kitchen.’ He’s adapted authentic, home-cooked recipes for the modern American kitchen, in this book containing dinner and brunch menus, meals for kids and cocktail parties. He’s also paired each healthy, easy-to-prepare meal with a particular Bollywood musical, each packed with dazzling song-and-dance numbers. After his free, author talk, where Sri Rao will share juicy morsels, from the book and behind the scenes in the making of many Bollywood films, there will be Bollywood dancing and tastings!
Signed copies of both ‘Bollywood Kitchen’ and ‘Istanbul & Beyond’ will be available for purchase. Unfortunately, the authors will be unable to sign copies purchased elsewhere. Both author talks are free to attend, but RSVPs are recommended because many Book Larder events sell out. Please reserve your chance to experience Istanbul and Bollywood cuisines on the BookLarder.com website today!
