Book Larder, our cookbook store in Upper Fremont, offers a full calendar of classes, cooking demonstrations and author talks throughout the year.  In June, they have plenty of books and classes worth considering, particularly as we all find ourselves with spring and summer bounties of fresh veggies and fruits.

On June 7th, from 6:30p – 9p, take part in the most basic, and most vital, cooking class of all.  Learn Knife Skills with experienced instructor, and chef, Erin Coopey, and better understand the techniques and skills chefs use to safely and quickly mince, slice and dice.  Get help with everything from proper grip to maintenance, and with a little practice you’ll be cutting like a pro.  For this hands-on class, bring your own chef’s knife and a small cutting board – and return home with bags of chopped vegetables ready for the following week’s dinners.

As with many Book Larder classes, Knife Skills is limited to 10 students and includes a small meal.  It is also a popular class and will sell-out soon.  Reserve your spot for $75, although remember that class reservations are not refundable.

On June 8th, from 6:30p – 8p, enjoy a free author talk with Mette Nielsen on ‘Savory Sweet: Simple Preserves from a Northern Kitchen.’  Nielsen mixes old-world Danish traditions with the freshest ideas and latest techniques to fill your pantry with the best of the season, all year long.  In her book, co-authored with Beth Dooley, Nielsen shows first-time and experienced canners alike how to make the most of a short growing season, with an emphasis on the local, the practical and the freshest ingredients.

As with all free author talks at Book Larder, advance reservations are requested, to guarantee adequate room for all attendees.  Also, in addition to discussing the book and answering questions, the author will sign copies of the cookbook, but only copies purchased at Book Larder, please.
