Through October 23rd, the Office of Arts & Culture has issued a call for artists to participate in the 2019 Arts In Parks, in partnership with the Seattle Parks & Recreation. These temporary art installations or social practice activities are intended to activate the spaces and engage visitors in their surrounding communities.
Artists, and artists teams, willing to work with communities who live/work near, or visit, the selected parks are being sought. The artists will create a site specific temporary artwork, or social practice activity, that aligns with the goals of the Seattle’s Race & Social Justice Initiative (click here to find the .pdf outlining those goals.)
This call is open to all artists living in Washington State who have a documented track record of making art, and are interested in creating art in public places. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, and interested in working collaboratively with the public. Artists who were awarded grants in the 2018 Arts In Parks cycle are not eligible to apply for 2019.
The selected artists will receive $4,500, inclusive of all fees including design-development of the final proposal, materials and installation. The artists will receive 40% of the total commission upon acceptance of the final proposal, 40% after documented installation of the art, and the remaining 20% after a brief project summary and documented de-installation have been completed.
