Celebrate International Bus Driver Appreciation Day Today!

March 18th is the day that, legend has it, bus service originally launched, in Paris, France in 1662.  For that reason, today is considered International Bus Driver Appreciation Day – a good reminder to thank the men and women that get us where we are going, on schedule and through traffic, day in and day out!

Join in giving thanks to hard-working bus drivers – transit, school, and rail operators too!  Make this as simple as a smile when boarding today, and/or a ‘thank you’ when stepping off.  Also, METRO has provided a link to submit an official commendation for transit drivers that deserve formal recognition for a job well done (this link works all year ‘round!)

‘International’ Bus Driver Appreciation Day has a not-so-long but local history – having been started by Seattle riders in 2009.  Riders do depend upon drivers to navigate, safely, through tough traffic in all kinds of weather conditions – why not honor their efforts today?  Also, those who don’t ride, consider giving a bus the right-of-way today, and making this a day to celebrate the bus service system we have here!
