Center for Wooden Boats Moves Closer To Having A North Lake Union Center

In the Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) Fall 2011 newsletter, Shavings, a piece written by Betsy Davis reports that in September the Metropolitan King County Council unanimously voted to support negotiations between METRO and CWB toward a lease agreement.

A lease would be created for use of a one-third acre property and 5,000 square foot warehouse on North Lake Union, just west of Gasworks Park and adjacent to the Seattle Harbor Patrol station.  While this lease will not allow CWB access to the water, it will provide the well-regarded organization with space for preservation and maintenance of historic small water craft.  Over time, CWB can also develop the site for use for workshops, exhibits and public events.

A fence will deny any access – at this time – from this property to the water.  However, it is to be hoped that in time, and the continued presence of CWB at North Lake Union, a way can be found to develop on-the-water programs – similar to those currently offered in South Lake Union.
