The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods has funds, through its Small Sparks program, for neighborhood-based clean-up events that qualify under the Spring Clean program. The deadline for applications for these matching fund dollars is six-weeks prior to the scheduled community clean-up event.
The Small Sparks Fund provides matching dollars for neighborhood-initiated projects that promote community engagement, like neighborhood-based clean-ups. Community groups can request up to $1,000 to enhance activities with publicity, plants, or special clean-up supplies.
Spring Clean, a clean-up event hosted by the Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), takes place over April and May, through partnerships with the Seattle Department of Parks & Recreation, the Department of Neighborhoods, and the Department of Transportation. Spring Clean provides opportunities for residents to take part in keeping their communities tidy, with bags, gloves, safety vests and more provided by SPU.
For information on the process for applying for a Small Sparks fund grant, visit the Department of Neighborhoods website or call 206/233-0093 – interested applicants must pre-register on the web-based application system.
