City Of Seattle is looking for people from all over our city, and from every part of our diverse population, to serve in an effort to build a more equitable and inclusive community that encourages involvement by everyone through the ‘Community Engagement Commission’.
Do you have ideas about how our City government can better engage with its residents? Do you want to be a catalyst for positive change in our community?
The City seeks those interested in assisting in reaching these goals. All City residents need access to information – clear, relevant, and tailored to their community, on their own terms and in their own language. The City sees need for clear, simple processes for accessing public input and allowing more participation in decision-making. The goal is residents feeling they are partners and collaborators with the City, with City projects and programs done for us and with us rather than to us.
The newly created Community Involvement Commission has been established to help guide City departments in building more, and improved, public engagement. The Commission will be 16 ‘Equity Champions’ who will work to create strategies that help City departments implement equitable engagement leading to more relevant and impactful public participation.
Please consider applying to serve on the Commission. Service would only require 3 – 6 hours per month, and the City has promised to do everything they can to make it as easy as possible for Commissioners to participate. The main priority is that your voice be heard, for all of the rest of us!
Applications and general information are available in seven different languages on the City website. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, March 1st by 5p. Don’t miss this opportunity to represent our community, our civic interests and our neighborhood in guiding the City on how to best reach and engage everyone in City actions and decisions.
