For the Saturday, January 25th Fremont Fireside Chat, at 3p at History House, attendees can witness an intimate interview that attempts to answer the question, ‘What about The Burkes?’

J.R. Burke moved his mill to Fremont in October 1939, and employed up to 600 people during World War II.  Learn the why and what-for, plus anecdotes about the influence Burke Millwork had on Fremont and the impact the Center of the Universe had on Burke and his family.  Suzie Burke, who went to work for her dad in June 1975, will share stories and details about the mill, its transformation into Fremont Dock Company – a property management company that leases to over 100 businesses in our area – and the development of modern Fremont.

Fremocentrist.com has never tackled the pervasive subject of the Burkes.  This rare effort will take place in a public forum, with plenty of opportunities for audience questions, in an interview conducted by Kirby Lindsay, local columnist, life-long Fremonster and daughter to Suzie Burke.

In the comfortable salon of History House of Greater Seattle (Fremont’s museum, initially funded by J.R. and Florence Burke,) enjoy this free, one-hour presentation.  Stick around after for a juice-and-cookie reception, and another opportunity to share your own anecdotes about the Burke family legacy in Fremont.

Also, mark your calendar for the other, upcoming Fremont Fireside Chats for 2014 – all sponsored most generously by HomeStreet Bank – on March 29th, May 31st, August 2nd, October 4th, and November 15th.
