Community Meeting on Fremont Siphon on November 30th

On Tuesday, November 30, 2010, from 6p – 7:30p at the Fremont Branch of the Seattle Public Library (731 N 35th) the community is encouraged to attend a public meeting on upcoming construction plans to update the Fremont Siphon, 100-year-old wastewater pipelines located west of the Fremont Bridge under the Lake Washington Ship Canal.  For more information about the project, visit the website.

The Fremont Siphon is part of the North Trunk Sewer, installed in the early 1900’s, and serves as a critical component of the King County regional wastewater system conveying sewage from the county’s northern service area at rates up to 220 million gallons per day.

Currently, King County is evaluating alternatives to rehabilitating or replacing the siphon pipes starting in 2014.  Any construction work done should be expected to impact users of the Burke-Gilman Trail, Fremont Canal Park, the South Ship Canal Trail and the West Ewing Mini Park/Ship Canal Park.

The meeting on  Tuesday, November 30 will answer questions about the project, allow suggestions for lessening community impacts and ask for feedback.  For special accommodations, or if you are unable to attend, contact Monica Van der Vieren at monica.vandervieren@kingcounty.gov or 206-263-7301.
