On Monday, October 28th, from 5p – 7p, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will hold a public open house on plans to build a two-way cycle track on Westlake Avenue between Lake Union Park and the Fremont Bridge. At B.F. Day Elementary School, a team from SDOT will present research data regarding corridor transportation uses, and gather input on community priorities.
Evaluation of the alternatives will continue through summer 2014, based on compiled public input. Public comments and ideas can be shared with the project team at the October 28th open house, which will give a short presentation at 5:30p.
The Westlake Corridor has many travel modes sharing limited space, including residential, business, recreational, tourism and freight traffic. The corridor is a designated freight route, with a City commitment to retain four lanes for through traffic until completion of the Alaskan Way Tunnel Project. The Westlake Avenue North Cycle Track Project is an attempt to balance the needs of all modes of travel through the corridor, in coordination with the Ballard to Downtown High Capacity Transit Planning Study which also has the Westlake Corridor under consideration for placement of High Capacity Transit.
Attend the public open house on October 28th to learn more about plans for Westlake, and the Cycle Track. Also visit the project website, or contact the project hotline at 206/909-8578 or e-mail at WCT@seattle.gov
