The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is seeking an artist, or artist team, to develop site-integrated artwork for the Yesler Neighborhood Park Project. This park will be the largest open space in the Yesler Terrace redevelopment, and is intended as a gathering place for a diverse community of residents of all ages. The deadline to apply for this project is Tuesday, June 3rd at 11p. Find the application on-line.
The selected artist, or team, will work with a design team that will include community members. The artist is expected to respond to the selected site’s patterns of use and design, and will be included in discussions on the overall design and sense of place.
The artist selected must be a professional, residing, and eligible to work, in Washington and/or Oregon. Those artists whose work address environmental issues and/or are interested in working with diverse communities are encouraged to apply. The total budget for the artwork is $130,000 – the selected artist will receive a design contract for $20,000 to develop site-integrated artwork and if the design proposal is accepted, a subsequent contract will be issued for $110,000 to fabricate and install the art.
For more information, attend a workshop on this project on May 15th from 6p – 7:30p at the Yesler Community Center. Contact Public Art Project Manager Marcia Iwasaki at 206/233-3946 or Marcia.iwasaki@seattle.gov with specific questions.
