Easter Bunny Wreaks Havoc; Future Of Aurora Bridge In Doubt

Today a rather large, rather grey bunny created havoc as it hopped along the Highway 99/George Washington Memorial Bridge, a.k.a. the Aurora Bridge.  Delight turned to fright as pieces of concrete and metal started to rain down upon the streets, structures and waterway beneath the 100+ year old historic span.

Early reports coming in reveal an almost miraculous lack of permanent damage to either people or structures.  No vehicles seem damaged.  In fact, except for wiping out a huge, almost unbelievable number of ride-share bicycles (of all brands,) there seems to have been no real damage done by the chunks of bridge slumping off.  The long term effects of this visit also remain hopeful, although a formal assessment will be needed.

Headed south, the bunny appears to be going to Queen Anne or Downtown Seattle.  In the meanwhile, the damage to the Aurora Bridge is substantial, and traffic will be detoured across the Fremont Bridge, which is operating beautifully – and bringing more visitors to our ‘hood.

Fortuitously, the bunny bypassed most of the Center of the Universe, and failed to discover the delicious produce sections at Marketime Foods or PCC Fremont – or the tasty Easter treats at Theo Chocolate.  The Fremont beer and Scotch reserves appear untouched, and safe, for while the shaking activity on the bridge did cause churning in Lake Union and the Ship Canal, the water barely lapped up on N Canal Street so Fremont Mischief and Indoor Sun Shoppe remain open for business – as does Fremont Brewing down on N 34th!

For those with tickets to Hale’s Palladium, it is expected that, once traffic clears, Moisture Festival will go on as scheduled (at 3p and 7:30p) uninterrupted – with plenty of mischief, magic and mayhem to delight audiences of all shapes & sizes.  Just, maybe, not giant bunnies.

The origins of this mammal-of-unusual-size has yet to be discovered.  No official statement has come from the Woodland Park Zoo as to its possible involvement, but emergency calls have actually traced the rabbit’s path as coming from the northeast, meaning it may have started nearer the site of Archie McPhee’s.  One reliable source did report, in recent days, sightings of French K-nits (a la Monty Python) skulking around the Canadian border, near Idaho, and this possible connection will be further investigated.

Expect to hear reports of more giant bunny activity from news sources that cover Queen Anne and points south, but for now, Fremocentrist.com is happy to share the news that Fremont (and the Sunday Market) remains safe, with plenty of carrots for all!

Happy Easter!

…and April Fool’s!
