The master chocolatiers at Theo Chocolate have two exciting events upcoming. On Monday, January 23rd, from 7p – 9:30p, Theo founders Joe Whinney and Debra Music will present Salon II, this time with Maggie Savarino. Then, on Saturday, January 28th from 2p – 5p, a Theo chocolatier will lead a hands-on confection making class.
The Theo Salon Series celebrates the wealth of literary and culinary talent that exists in the Northwest. Each salon includes a robust conversation moderated by food maverick Michael Hebb, and debuts a confection co-created in the Theo kitchen with the featured guest.
For January the Salon features Maggie Savarino, author of ‘The Seasonal Cocktail Companion,’ a cocktail recipe and project book (a.k.a. ‘arts & crafts with booze’.) The book contains recipes on how to make aquavit, bitters, Limóncello, tonic water and a host of other items to round out a well-stocked liquor cabinet. It also offers a wealth of the basic syrups, salts, herbs and more.
The conversation will riff on DIY culture, its necessity and romance. This is an open conversation where participation is appreciated. Tickets can be purchased in advance through Brown Paper Tickets, and cost $15 per person. Tickets include a festive beverage, appetizers, and surprise treats from Maggie Savarino.
Also up-coming is one of Theo’s popular confections making classes. On Saturday, January 28th – just in time for St. Valentine’s Day – from 2p – 5p, attendees can learn the art of hands-on chocolate crafting.
Spend an afternoon picking up ‘behind the scenes’ techniques for making ganache, chocolate tempering, and putting finishing touches on your confections. Best of all, walk away with the fruits of your labor.
Due to the limited space and the need to provide materials for all participants, reservations are required – and 7-day advance notice is required to cancel. Tickets cost $125 and can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets.
Finally, check out the Theo Chocolate Shop on February 3 during the Fremont First Friday Art Walk for a show of the photography of Nate Watters. This event is FREE, with no reservation required.
