On Friday, July 6th, from 6p – 9p, the Fremont First Friday Art Walk returns, to provide culture and gather a community at the Center of the Universe. This month, the art of the walk shows how we can empower young women, and encourage actual artists and their creations.
At Oohla’s Salon & Gallery see an on-going photography project by Linda Brooks. A professional family portrait photographer and educator, Brooks had noticed that families often have images captured of their children when they are babies and toddlers, then only again for high school graduation or a wedding. Having worked with young women aged 10 – 12, she recognized the vulnerability and self-esteem issues of these girls. With the traveling Empower Project, Brooks displays positive, confidence-inspiring photos of middle school girls, accompanied by words of praise and insight from people in their lives. See some beautiful photos of the young women, and hear a fragment of their stories in these inspiring photos on display around the salon.
In addition to Oohla’s, check out the art at:
- Portage Bay Goods – See small works by Grace Rajendran, to celebrate the arrival of summer with vibrant, colorful art in a show titled, ‘In The Garden.’ Explore the creative gift shop and grab some snacks while meeting the artist and exposing yourself to this exciting artist.
- Frame-Up Studio – Enjoy a collection of National Park prints, framed and unframed, that capture the joy of nature and the importance of these treasurers. Images dating back to 1938 are contained in this collection, on display at the frame shop through July.
- Outsider Comics & Geek Boutique – Local artist Nancy Elizabeth Bishop Harvey will have some of her creative works on display. Using a variety of different designs and diverse mediums, Harvey expresses the works of her imagination with color, style and thought. Stop by and see her original art at Outsider.
