The Equinox Building in Fremont, at 711 N 35th St, has had two break-ins over the last week. The building manager would like help identifying the suspects, and she hopes to warn neighbors of potential threats to their property.
Last weekend, an intruder entered the garage of the building, prying through the lower section of chain link fencing around the bike storage area. The thief also broke into a car. It isn’t clear if anything was taken from the vehicle or the bike storage area.
It is also unclear how intruders gained access to the building at 2:35a on Thursday, Dec 7th, but they may have tampered with the intercom panel. Once inside, the intruders took two packages, removed the contents, and left the plastic wrappers in the stairwell, as well as breaking in to another car parked in the garage.
The management of the Equinox Building is investigating how the intruders tampered with the intercom panel, and are considering complete replacement of the system.
They advised:
- Remove visible, portable items from your vehicle
- Check mailboxes and drop-off points as soon as you can after delivery by postal employees – particularly when expecting packages
- Keep aware of your surroundings – stores need to be aware of customers, and residents need to be aware of suspicious behavior around their properties
- Securely lock vehicles, doors and gates
The Equinox Building also provides security cameras, and they captured images provided to the Seattle Police Department (SPD) in order to identify the thieves. Of course, if you see the people in these photos, or any suspicious behavior, please call the SPD immediately.
Please, do what you can to make this a safe and secure, and festive, holiday season – for everyone!
