On June 7th or 8th, take one of two remaining opportunities for relaxing and expanding your knowledge of nature, beauty and Ikebana. Only two more sessions remain in the spring quarter of the Hana Design Ikebana classes, held at Nalanda West, and taught by Charles Coughlan.
Each class is presented as a separate unit of study, enabling students to attend on a ‘drop-in’ basis, as well as by the quarter. Each class begins with reflections upon Ikebana’s history and philosophy, from its ancient Shinto origins, evolving into a Buddhist monastic tradition, medieval Samurai discipline, and now the modern/abstract art form. Instruction is given in hands-on design and technique, by the instructor who brings over 33 years of experience in Ikebana. Coughlan is a third level teacher of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana of Tokyo, which takes a modern approach to this ancient art, focused on fun and relaxation.
A $20 materials fee is requested for each class and can be paid at the time. Branches and flowers are provided as well as tools, containers, and needle point holders. Classes accommodate beginners as well as those with more experience.
Remaining classes take place on Wednesday, June 7th at 7:15p or Thursday, June 8th at Noon, and Wednesday, June 21st at 7:15p or Thursday, June 22nd at 1:30p. Please register by notifying the instructor by phone (206/789-4226) or email (charles@hanadesignikebana.com) within two days of the class date/time that you plan to attend.
