The Abbey Arts Center has a proven track record of presenting inventive, alternative and/or progressive performance art. ‘Net//Works’ has something for everyone – dance, sound, visual, and comedic art – wrapped up in a single show, created by three separate but collaborating artists: Tara Dyberg (choreographer,) Jesse French (sound artist,) and Kristin DiClemente (visual artist.)
‘Net//Works’ explores all the networks – from the microscopic cellular networks that tie our bodies together to those constructed by us, for survival, social or politicial reasons, to connect we humans to one another.
Dyberg draws on her recent experience of immigration to investigate isolation and boundaries. Her choreography explores the rules we place on ourselves and each other in attempts to realize relativity and individuality.
In conjunction with the movements selected by Dyberg, French has constructed a soundscape to explore psychoacoustic properties in the Abbey building’s architecture. The network of soundwaves selected by French activate the unique tone and character of the Fremont Abbey Great Hall, to create a piece specifically designed for experience in this space.
The intricate works of DiClemente will be showcased in the Abbey gallery, and they reflect the common networking pattern between the circulatory system and the branching networks of roots, rivers, veins, and tree branches. DiClemente highlights how these systems merge, become dependent, and symbolize the connectedness of all things in nature, and the phenomena of living systems.
This evening of interwoven art will be tied together by the interactive comedy of ComedySportz Seattle, as well as assisting with the transition of the audience from the downstairs art gallery to the upstairs performance space of the Great Hall. The ComedySportz troupe engage in improvisation games played as sport, where the teams of comedians compete for audience laughter. Enjoy rare chance to see them perform in Fremont at ‘Net//Works’ this Saturday, at 7p or 9p.
