Love the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) Solstice Parade? Want to help out in a fundamental way? Wanna get paid? The Arts Council currently seeks a Studio Coordinator to oversee the parade production workshop during the 2011 season – deadline for applications is 5p on Monday, April 25th.
The FAC maintains a free, open-to-the-public art production space during the parade building season (mid-May to mid-June) and they need someone who will greet drop-in visitors and provide assistance to those utilizing the workshop space.
According to the notice for applicants posted on the FAC Yahoo e-group, the ideal candidate has the following attributes:
- Outgoing, Encouraging/Supportive, and Assertive.
- Excellent public engagement/communication skills.
- Proficient in parade art skills (i.e., papier-mâché, costuming, large puppet, mask making, etc.)
- Love for problem solving and supportive design brainstorming.
- Comfortable with use of power tools.
- Certified in First-Aid.
- Familiarity with the Fremont Solstice Parade, or other community art parades.
- Ability to thrive in chaotic environments.
Requirements for the position include:
- Coverage of 3 hours/night, 5 nights/week and daytime weekend shifts for 4 weeks May 14th, 2011 through June 19, 2011.
- The ability to lift 60#.
- A positive, engaging attitude.
- A team player.
- Good common sense.
- Ability to address conflict with a cool-head and professional approach.
- Attention to cleanliness and workspace orderliness.
- Attention to safety in the studio.
Specific duties include:
- Staff studio during hours of operation. M-F 6PM-9PM, Sa./Su. 11AM-5PM (some flexibility/delegation will be arranged).
- Maintain a clean and safe community art studio.
- Support artist workshops.
- Work with Workshop Manager to assess studio supply needs and functionality.
- Provide on-site assistance to parade participants in float/puppet design.
- Public greeter and project starter.
- Work with and train volunteers in the studio.
- Participate in weekly parade planning/staff meetings.
- Organize and Staff registration table at line-up day-of parade.
- Leads clean-up of studio on Sunday, June 19th.
The Studio Coordinator performs as an integral part of the Parade Staff team, and will be under the supervision of the Solstice Director. The position also includes day-of-parade duties, and clean-up afterwards. Compensation is a $1000 stipend. No benefits.
