This Sunday, March 3rd, at 11a, participants can gather for the most accessible of all parades, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) Petit Troll – at the Fremont Sunday Market. There will be one more workshop, this Saturday from Noon – 4p at the FAC Powerhouse, where everyone can build their own mini-float and decorate their own umbrella for dancing through the Petit Troll.
The Petit Troll is a great way to get your creative juices flowing and your imagination inspired in preparation for the BIG EVENT – the Fremont Solstice Parade coming June 22nd at 1p. The kaleidoscopic expression of joy will gather giant puppets, stilt walkers, floats, dancers, and musicians to perform and prance in the streets of Fremont!
For the Solstice Parade, everyone is an artist! Everyone can participate and create for the FAC celebration of summer and community. This is a people-powered and human-sized parade, meant to invite all open and willing volunteers to engage.
Right now, there are two deadlines for those who want to get involved:
- By April 5th apply for a Dave McKay Parade Art Grant – Named for one of the original Solstice Parade artists, these grants fund design and creation of art to transform the street into theater. The grants cover developing ensemble work or moveable pieces of art for the Fremont Solstice Parade, and for the FAC Celebration that follows at Gas Works Park. Grants of up to $1,500 are available for individuals, groups and established organizations. Find out details on the FAC website (click here.)
- By March 19th submit a proposal for Fremont Solstice Parade Poster Art, with Final Designs due March 30th – Artists (and remember, everyone is an artist) can submit designs for consideration for use in promotion of the 2019 Parade. FAC leadership will select one design, and the artist will be awarded a $250 honorarium for the design (along with a membership in the FAC and credit for the design.) Find details about how to submit your design proposal, and the information that must be included in any poster, on the FAC website ‘Call for Poster Art’ (click here.)
If neither of these opportunities appeal to you, or your ensemble, registration for parade participation will open soon – and everyone is invited to attend the public, open Committee-Of-the-Whole (COW) meeting on March 12th at 7p at The Powerhouse.
Also, if anyone needs help with applications to either Poster Art or the McKay Grants program, the COW meeting will be a great place to ask for help.
Of course, the Petit Troll on Sunday, March 3rd at 11a will be a great place to get energized and enthused about celebrating our community through art!
See you there!!
