The Fremont Arts Council (FAC) is currently preparing for its annual lantern walk around Green Lake, on the Autumnal Equinox.  In preparation, the FAC will host a series of workshops in building lanterns, for the use of participants and for sale as a fundraiser for the Luminata Lantern Walk.

The FAC believes everyone is an artist, and they encourage everyone (of every age and ability) to come make art in The Powerhouse workshop.  All materials will be available, along with workshop hosts that can instruct and guide the lantern building process.

These are free make & take workshops, where participates can make a lantern to take home but they are encouraged to make three, and leave two for sale by the FAC in the Luminata Lantern Shoppe at Green Lake on September 21st.  If you cannot stay to make the additional two lanterns, a $10 donation is requested.

Materials will be on-hand for building lanterns but if you want to donate supplies, the FAC can use:

  • Translucent tissue paper (handmade okay)
  • Garden sticks, or thin gnarly branches
  • Glue guns and glue sticks

Workshops will take place from now until right up to Luminata, which will take place at dusk on September 21st, starting at the Aqua Barn / Small Crafts Area at Green Lake.  Workshops run about two-hours and are currently scheduled for:

If you want to get more involved in this annual event, the FAC will also need volunteers to help sell lanterns, cookies and cider before and after Luminata, as well as help drop-off and pick-up materials.  Find out more at one of the 30+ lantern building workshops at the FAC Powerhouse.
