While most of us are suffering from COVID-19 restrictions, some are facing privations of the most basic necessities – 1 in 4 families are saying that they did not have enough food to last the week in their household. September is Hunger Action Month and a good time to ask for assistance from those who might have something to share.
Food insecurity can permanently damage the physical and mental development of children, but it also leaves parents wrestling with anxiety and deep disappointment. Without proper nutrition, students cannot study, focus and learn. None of us will reach our full potential on an empty stomach.
Help FamilyWorks fight hunger among our neighbors. You can read about the ways they recommend for helping, and the families they support, on the FamilyWorks Facebook page (click here.)
Visit the FamilyWorksSeattle.org website (click here,) to find out about current volunteer needs – for those healthy enough to serve – and about donating to this organization that provides food, diapers and other basic needs at this time of deep distress. Hunger Action Month is a great time to assess your need, and see if you have anything you can share!
