Volunteers are a vital part of the FamilyWorks’ efforts to combat hunger. In 2018, over 500 volunteers gave over 7,000 to the emergency nutrition programs at FamilyWorks, connecting neighbors and families to nourishing food.
Help take action against hunger, with convenient weekend and evening volunteer activities through FamilyWorks:
- Supermarket Saturdays – Hand out flyers to shoppers that detail the non-perishable foods the food bank needs, and collect donations, on the third Saturday of the month from 9a – 1p on one-hour shifts (click here for more information – and links to sign-up)
- Weekend Special Events – Collect donations and share information about FamilyWorks’ programs and food bank at Hunger Goblin’ Trick or Treat, Green Lake Pathway of Lights, and the Annual Sunday Supper & Silent Auction
- Bulk Packaging program – Help scoop bulk foods, donated by PCC Markets and other sources, into family-sized portions, on the first Wednesday of the month, from 7p – 9p (click here for details and sign-up)
- Reading Buddies – encourage and support a love of books by reading with second grade students, on Wednesdays at 3:30p at the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club (contact FamilyWorks before Sept 17th to sign-up for this academic year.)
Have a profound impact on the health of our neighbors, and families in desperate need. Take action against hunger, now, to cultivate a more vibrant community for all!
For those unable to volunteer, consider giving a donation of money to give those marginalized in our society access to food, family support and a path to resiliency. Find out more on the FamilyWorks website.
