FamilyWorks Takes Their Services On-The-Road To Serve More

Throughout the pandemic, FamilyWorks has found ways to provide for clients – safely and securely. Photo provided by FamilyWorks, Nov ’20

The services provided by FamilyWorks Food Bank & Resource Center have had to increase over the last year as unemployment, housing insecurity and shuttered services have increased and led more and more families in our community in need.  As the need has grown, FamilyWorks has sought new ways to provide and assist.

In addition to the Food Banks operated by FamilyWorks, they have a Resource Center where families can find items to meet even more of their basic needs.  FamilyWorks offers:

  • Community Closet – FamilyWorks clients can find clothing, toys, books and other essential items
  • Free Diaper Program – Over 200 families a year have needed help to keep their babies clean and dry, and to give enough that their children will be accepted into daycare.
  • Community Connector – Staff can help families receive rental assistance, get enrolled in healthcare, and navigate the constant changes in community resources that is another unfortunate part of the COVID-19 pandemic

With so much need, and so many people hampered in their ability to get around due to COVID prevention restrictions, FamilyWorks has partnered with Seattle Public Schools to use Nathan Hale High School as a North Seattle resource hub.  They will also be offering services, soon, through a mobile food pantry, intended to take food bank services to those unable to come to the Greenwood or Wallingford sites.

FamilyWorks has continued to provide whatever they can during the pandemic, while observing all guidances and restrictions intended to prevent the spread of coronavirus.  They’ve operated, for families with small children at home, virtual playgroups, parenting workshops on-line, and caregiver support groups through digital means.

The FamilyWorks Food Bank & Resource Center remains responsive to families in need, and working to strengthen and sustain our neighbors.  To do this work, those who find that they can share are asked to make a gift to FamilyWorks (click here to donate.)  Thanks to an anonymous donor, all gifts of $25 or more (up to $3,000) will be matched – and all donations will go towards providing vital services to those struggling in our community.
