This weekend will be the four final opportunities to see ReAct Theatre’s production of ‘The Aliens’ by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Annie Baker. At West of Lenin, see this Obie-winning play with original music and lyrics by Michael Chernus, Patch Darragh, and Erin Gann. Directed by David Hsieh and featuring the considerable acting talents of Alan E. Garcia, Curtis Gehlhausen and Cooper Harris-Turner, ‘The Aliens’ has garnered a lot of positive response from Seattle critics and audiences during its short summer run at WofL – don’t miss out on your few remaining opportunities to see it for yourself!
In ‘The Aliens,’ two of society’s outcasts loiter by the trash bins behind a Vermont coffee shop on the 4th of July weekend. The two underemployed millennials meditate on music, philosophy, lost loves, and the poetry of Bukowski. When asked by a teenage barista to leave, the funny and heartfelt interaction leads to changes in the lives of all three. This is a subtle and nuanced look at looming issues in American society today, with original music that further enhances the exploration of friendship, loss and the greatness within each of us.
