On Saturday, October 26th, from 10a – Noon, the City of Seattle will host a community open house about the site selected for the new North Precinct for the Seattle Police Department. The existing North Precinct, located near the campus of North Seattle Community College, was built in 1984 to house 154 staff. With a current staff of 254, a list of repairs needed and a lack of adequate space on the site for expansion, the City has elected to find a property – at the southeast corner of Aurora Avenue North & North 130th Street – to build a new Precinct.
The open house on October 26th takes place near the proposed site, at the Bitter Lake Community Center gym. Attendees can learn more about the proposed precinct site, and the schedule for acquisition, planning and construction. An architecture and engineering design team is being assembled to start work on predesign this year, and their representatives will also be on-hand to take questions and concerns.
A public hearing on the property acquisition is expected in December 2013, and this open house will give information for that process. Also, more information is available now through the SPD website – including a sign-up for e-mail updates on this project.
