Fire Up The Grill! Or Just Enjoy The BBQ Extravaganza June 2nd

On Sunday, June 2nd, from 10a – 11p, the largest BBQ Competition in Seattle will take place in Fremont on the new U-Park System lot at Roxy’s Diner – as a fundraiser for the 25th FAC Solstice Parade.  The all-day, free festival features a dog fashion parade, beer tasting, live music and, of course, a BBQ competition with a $2,000 cash prize, plus BBQ Smoker, going to the winners.

Sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest Barbeque Association (PNWBA,) the competition will feature amateur BBQ teams plus BBQ demonstrations, free samples, sauce tastings, a mini-pancake eating contest, a bagel ring toss, and a dog fashion show.  A live music stage will feature everything from bluegrass to rockabilly.

Admission is free to all of the above.  Through Brown Paper Tickets, get admission (for $10 each) to a whole-hog pig roast at Pete’s Fremont Fire Pit, with corn on the cob, coleslaw, Texas toast, and fresh pie.  Also through Brown Paper Tickets, for those 21 year old and over, get admission to The Backdoor for a tasting of local beers including Fremont Brewing, Maritime, Hale’s, Outlander, and Reubens, for only $20.

The BBQ championship competition can be entered by teams of amateur chefs registered with the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association – go on-line to submit an application and pay the registration fee.  The competition will be judged by winners of numerous BBQ cooking competitions.

The mini-pancake eating event will be open to a variety of age categories, starting at age 4.  The competition will be judged on speed, not quantity, and competitors can select from a variety of flavors – regular, chocolate chip, and blueberry – and toppings of syrup and fresh whipped cream.

At 11:45a, a dog parade and fashion show will be held.  Preregistration will take place starting at 10, although walk-ins will be allowed.  Prizes will be given out, donated by Petapoluza and Norm’s Eatery & Ale House.

The entire event is a fundraiser for the 25th Solstice Parade, produced by the Fremont Arts Council, which will take place on June 22nd starting at 3p.  This free BBQ Extravaganza is made possible by the sponsorship of the PNWBA, Peter Glick Restaurants, U.S. Foods, Seattle Bagel Bakery, Sutter Home & Hearth, Roxy’s Diner, Pete’s Fremont Fire Pit, The Backdoor, Norm’s Eatery, Petapoluza, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, PCC Natural Markets, Homestreet Bank, the Rotary Club of Fremont, and Living Social.

For those who want to donate directly to the Solstice Parade, go on-line to the Fremont Arts Council donor site.  And thank you!
