First Seattle Bike Counter Comes To Fremont Bridge

On Thursday, October 11th, the City of Seattle installed the first counter of bicycle traffic crossing the Fremont Bridge.

The counter, funded by the Mark & Susan Torrance Foundation and acquired by the Cascade Bicycle Club, will provide a more accurate count of the number of cyclists using this roadway.  The 24 hour/7 day-a-week/365 days-a-year counter will allow “more accurate benchmarking for goals to increase cycling as set forth in the Bicycle Master Plan,” according to the Seattle Department of Transportation website, where visitors can view of the numbers being compiled.

As the only counter, currently, in the City of Seattle, it is possible that Fremont may see an increase of bicycle traffic across the Bridge.  It is to be hoped that the increase of non-motorized vehicles brings more people ready to stop and stay – and enjoy – the Center of the Universe.
