Construction on the new North Seattle Transfer Station (the Dump) is rounding a corner, according to the Seattle Public Utility.  After a summer spent demolishing and excavating the former transfer station site, this fall expect to see more positive progress.

The new facility is scheduled to be completed in 2016, and be able to process solid waste more effectively and efficiently to reach the City’s zero-waste goal.  The new facility design incorporated community input and many features that reduce traffic congestion, noise, and odor.

Over the next couple of weeks, the construction team plans to:

  • continue pouring concrete foundations, and begin pouring concrete walls
  • install stone foundation columns on the east end of the site
  • install a drainage system at Stone Way N and N 34th Street, pending permit approval, which could require a 24-hour closure of Stone Way over multiple days, and a partial closure along the north side of N 34th St.

As construction enters this new project phase, regular construction updates will be issued.  For answers to questions about the North Transfer Station Rebuild Project, visit the project website or contact the project team at 206/819-5948 or SPU_NTS@seattle.gov
