On Wednesday, November 13th, from 6:30p – 8p, author Derek Sandhaus will be at Book Larder to talk about his journey of discovery into the world’s oldest drinking culture. ‘Drunk In China’, Sandhaus’ new book, will examine one of the world’s leading producers and consumers of liquor.
Alcohol infuses all aspects of the Chinese culture, from religion and literature, to business and warfare – and yet the most famous spirit, within the country, remains a mystery. Sandhaus has traveled throughout China, and around the globe, to meet with distillers, brewers, snake-oil salesmen, archeologists and ordinary drinkers of the elusive baijiu. Yet, baijiu is finally starting to be served beyond the borders of China, and as Chinese society becomes increasingly international, its drinking culture may also adapt and expand – is the West ready?
Attend this free author event at Book Larder, as Matthew Amster-Burton and Sandhaus engage in conversation about the history of baijiu, Sandhaus’ travels, and authentic Chinses cuisine. Sandhaus will also sign copies of his new book, ‘Drunk In China’, but only copies purchased at Book Larder.
