On Saturday, May 28th, from 1p – 4:30p, the Fremont Branch of the Seattle Public Library (SPL) will host the SPL African-American Film Series with a free screening of the award-winning ‘Malcolm X’.
The film series, which runs through June 25th at all Seattle branches, celebrates black actors, directors and the rich and varied African-American experience. ‘Malcolm X’, the epic biography of the legendary civil rights leader, stars Denzel Washington, and is directed by Spike Lee. This film is rated PG-13, and parents are strongly cautioned about bringing children under 13. The film, which runs to 202 minutes, will have one intermission.
While at the Fremont Branch for the film, or to pick up materials (or see the final days of the display of historic photos by the Fremont Historical Society,) make sure to pick up information on the Book Bingo Adult Summer Reading Program.
The SPL and Seattle Arts & Lectures (SAL) invite adult readers to expand their selections this summer, and potentially win prizes, by filling out a Book Bingo card (available at branches or on-line here.) Prizes include a library of books by 2016-17 authors, tickets to the SAL season, or a $30 gift card to one of the participating independent bookstores: Ada’s Technical Books, Elliott Bay Book Company, Magnolia Bookstore, Open Books, Phinney Books, Queen Anne Book Co, Secret Garden Books, Third Place Books, University Bookstore, or Wide World Books & Maps.
Bingo cards must be completed and submitted by 5p on September 6th. Find more information on this summer reading program on-line, or by talking to a staff person at the Fremont Branch Library anytime, including before or after ‘Malcolm X’ this Saturday.
