Fremont Arts Council Prepares For Virtual Solstice Parade

Find out more about the Fremont Solstice Parade Virtual Event during the Instagram Live COW Meeting on May 12th.

On Tuesday, May 12th, at 7p, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will be holding its first-ever Instagram Live COW Meeting, to allow for public discussion and planning for the Fremont Solstice Parade Virtual Event.

FAC Member Lymarie and others will host the public meeting on Instagram @let_it_be_made_8 to plan for the Parade, which has been cancelled as a live event, and share news on other event plans.  They will also share about art being created during ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ quarantine, and ways the Arts Council can reach out to its community and support the wave of creativity the pandemic has inspired.  All are welcome, and questions are encouraged.  There will also be small prizes offered for pop quiz answers.

Ensembles, like the bright Boot Boogie Babes, won’t be able to perform at the Solstice Parade this year, but they could submit video from a pre-COVID-19 performance for the Fremont Solstice Parade Virtual Event. Photo by Adrian Laney, Jun ’19

Meanwhile, the FAC Board has continued to work, at a distance, on how to navigate, safely, during COVID-19 – and to have a ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ Solstice we can all enjoy!  To that end, the FAC will be producing, with the invaluable assistance of The Production Network (TPN), an on-line version of the Fremont Solstice Parade, to be streamed on June 20th.

The first-ever Virtual Fremont Solstice Parade is currently envisioned as a combination of historical parade footage, interviews/stories on parade making, and content created and submitted by FAC supporters and Parade Participants.  This Solstice Parade Virtual Event will showcase the artists, ensembles and volunteers who make this spectacular, legendary event happen!

By June 1st, content can be submitted for inclusion in the Fremont Solstice Parade Virtual Event.  The content can be:

  • newly created performances, filmed for the 2020 Parade
  • video from past participation, that highlights an ensemble or float or other art
  • video from a performance that would have been done in the 2020 Parade
  • an interview/story on what the Fremont Solstice Parade ‘means to you’
Ambitious, and grand floats and puppets, that take many hands to make, may not be able to get built for the 2020 Solstice Virtual Event – but video of those from past year’s could be submitted. Photo by Adrian Laney, Jun ’17

Guidelines for successful filmed submissions, from TPN, are:

  • content submissions no longer than 3 minutes
  • submissions can only be accepted through the FAC Fremont Solstice Parade Submission Form (click here)
  • meet or precede the deadline of June 1st, with appropriate submissions being edited and included as soon as received, so those accepted early will be most likely to be incorporated

The FAC will not be able to use all submitted material, and nudity will be blurred, if it is used at all.  There are technical specifications to all video submissions.  Please contact the FAC for the whole list, either by e-mail at fac@fremontartscouncil.org or through the FAC website (click here,) or the FAC Facebook Page.

Of course, as always, this grand volunteer effort needs volunteers and a great way to be a part of the magic and merriment of the FAC Fremont Solstice Parade is as a volunteer!  Please consider ‘attending’ the Instagram Live COW Meeting at 7p on May 12th for more information, or finding out more on the Fremont Solstice Parade Virtual Volunteer Form (click here,) on Google Forms.

Creative problem solving and expression are the hallmarks of an artist, and the FAC has long found grassroots arts’ activities as a way to build and sustain community.  Be a part of our community healing and ‘coming together’ even as we maintain safe physical distancing!  Join the FAC!  Find out more at fremontartscouncil.org
