Celebrate the Solstice, in Fremont-style, with the FAC's Fremont Solstice Parade & Celebration.
Celebrate the Solstice, in Fremont-style, with the FAC’s Fremont Solstice Parade & Celebration.

On Saturday, June 16th, the Fremont Solstice Parade will take to the streets of our community at 1p.  This is the 30th Annual Solstice Parade for the Fremont Arts Council (FAC,) and it will end at Gas Works Park, where the FAC will hold its Solstice Celebration well into the night!

Watching the Fremont Solstice Parade, and seeing the dancers, stilt walkers, floats and ensembles, is a time-honored tradition.  However, being in the Parade, or a part of the Celebration, can be an entirely soul fulfilling, life-changing experience!

Artistic expression and creative enterprise are within reach of anyone willing to give even a few minutes to the FAC.  Step off the curb, and out of the crowd, and be in the Parade!  Participation is open to everyone; for everyone can be an artist.

This year, consider two special opportunities to engage:

  • The Fremont Solstice Parade floats roll through the streets to finish at Gas Works Park, where the Celebration takes place!  This year, the FAC has organized a variété production with interactive art, astounding performances, a pun slam called ‘Pundamounium’ and live music, plus food trucks and a beer garden.  Come party, or volunteer to help make the fun happen.

  • Join the Green Hat Squad, and make the magic happen!  The Green Hat Squad is tasked with raising money to keep the Fremont Solstice alive for years to come, by collecting donations during the Parade.  The FAC needs 30+ volunteers to dress-up in costume and dance through the streets alternatively pushing the giant Green Hat or whipping small hats on crazy long poles through the crowds of on-lookers to solicit funds.  With the theme ‘Party Like It’s 1989!?’, the costume options are unlimited.  Sign-up to participate, and attend a kick-off workshop for the Green Hat Squad on June 7th from 7p – 10p for more information – and a chance to raid the closet for costume pieces!
