Next week, on November 16th at Noon, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce will host a discussion on the Wine, Beer & Spirits Industry, with representatives from Fremont Brewing, Schilling Cider and Fremont Mischief.  Attendees can learn how these businesses are faring in the current climate, ways they entertain and educate their customers, and directions for partnerships with other businesses.  In addition, as part of a new educational meeting segment, Christopher Gronbeck of The Barrel Thief Wine & Whiskey Bar will talk for a few minutes about his unique mission for creating a better informed client base.

At its October meeting, the Chamber welcomed consultant Berry Zimmerman, of BizEnrich, for a 5-minute presentation on introducing your business, and involving others in helping you grow it.  This is about improving your ‘elevator pitch’ or short Biz Intro to sell their product, service, company or cause.

Zimmerman recommends creating 3 – 6 brief sentences that capture the essence of:

  • WHY you are in business
  • HOW you are different
  • WHAT your clients get from your products or services

As to phrasing answers, Zimmerman recommended framing the ‘Why’ with statements that start with ‘We believe…’ or ‘Everything we do…’  This describes your business as it captures your passion and your company’s mission.

Next, Zimmerman encouraged a statement that will differentiate your company from other businesses.  Look at your best client, favorite customer or ideal collaborator, and frame the ‘How’ with statements that begin either with ‘We do our best work with clients who…’ or ‘Our perfect prospect is…’

Finally, describe your company’s niche, and how that serves your customers.  The frame to ‘What’ is ‘Customers tell us we consistently…’ or ‘Our customers improve their…’

With three sentences, you have a brief view of either the whole company, or a particular product or service you provide.  Now, Zimmerman recommended concluding with a specific call to action.  Not everyone you meet will buy, but ask them ‘Who do you know…’ to enlist their aid in finding your audience, and your ideal prospect.

Bring your newly minted elevator speech to the next Chamber meeting, and network among members of the Wine, Beer & Spirits industry – and other business owners looking to connect and grow.  The meeting will take place at The Barrel Thief, on November 16th, from Noon – 1:30p.  The fee is $25 for non-Chamber members, or $20 for members (sign-ups can be done at the door.)  RSVPs are required, and can be given on-line through the Fremont Chamber event page (click here.)
